It always surprises us how little people know about packaging’s impact on the world. Our team thought it was time to set the record straight. Here we’ve compiled some of our favourite, most random facts about packaging!
1
We don’t need to tell you that packaging surrounds us, you only have to take a look at your desk or your home to realise the extent of global packaging. What many people may not realise is that most of us will handle over 50 types of packaging every day.
2
It’s amazing to discover that 94% of the world’s population recognise Coca-Cola’s branding. (that’s currently 7 billion people!) Now that’s what we call an incredible global brand.
3
Studies have indicated that ineffective packaging has led to 75% of packaged products failing to earn even £6 million in the first year.
4
We couldn’t share fun packaging facts without talking about the skincare company Lush. You may have heard that the protective packaging found in their online deliveries is edible. Although that’s not the intended use, it can, in fact, be eaten. (A great way to save on packaging waste!)
5
One particular fact had us all checking our crisp stash at DCP! It is widely known that regardless of the brand, all crisps will have a Saturday use by date. (Our tuck box can confirm that this is correct.)
6
You know the overwhelming smell of coffee that hits you when you peel back the seal on an instant coffee jar? That scent is actually a coffee aroma that is sprayed onto the lids to provide the scent of freshly ground coffee.
7
Who doesn’t love a personalised product? Especially when it’s not expected. According to a study, 52% of online shoppers are more likely to repeat purchase from a company if they receive personalised shipping boxes.
8
Did you know every Christmas 83km2 of wrapping paper is wasted, that’s enough wrapping paper to entirely cover Guernsey? Maybe remember this the next time you receive a present with nice looking paper – re-gift that wrapping paper for recycling brownie points!
9
Businesses have reported a 30% increase in consumer interest when those businesses show a strong attention to packaging. Similar research has found that consumers now view packaging as almost as important as the brand and product itself. Apple now even has a secret packaging room in its California Headquarters – We know DCP would love to be a fly on the wall in that creative space!
We hope that’s persuaded you on the importance of packaging in today’s world! If you’re looking to make an impact with your retail packaging then contact our friendly team today. We’ll help you go from concept to print with ease.
